Living Room Day Program

Our Living Room Program welcomes all Evergreen clients (those living with an illness, caregivers, and those who are grieving) to come together to share an activity focused on their well being and self care. It is an activity based group providing the opportunity to take time for yourself, participate in conversation, expressive art or music, or just be in a healing, supportive environment.

Women's Group

Evergreen's Women's Compassionate Care Group is a peer support group dedicated to providing a safe space for women navigating the challenges of chronic illness. Whether you are looking for help with the physical or emotional impacts, managing a diagnosis, coping with expectations, communication, relationships, or other practical concerns, join us to connect with others who understand.

Drop-In Caregiver Group

Being a caregiver can be both rewarding and challenging. Evergreen’s Caregiver Support Group is an online weekly drop-in group providing caregivers with opportunities for learning, sharing and support from other caregivers in the community. Join us for a supportive space where you can share experiences, gain insights, and connect with others who understand what you’re going through.

Closed Bereavement Support Group

Evergreen’s Closed Bereavement Group is a 6-8 week bereavement support group for adults coping with the death of a loved one. Our group is dedicated to supporting those navigating the complex journey of grief, offering a healing environment for bereaved adults to express their emotions and share experiences. We aim to provide a safe and inclusive space to help find clarity, compassion, and connection with others who understand grief.

Drop-In Bereavement Support Group

Evergreen’s Bereavement Group is an online weekly drop-in group providing support, education and resources to those who have been impacted by death. This group offers a safe space to find compassion, support and connection with others who understand what you’re going through. Professional staff and specially trained volunteers will assist with each session while respecting culture, faith and language.

Compassionate Communities:

Connection Clubs

Evergreen’s Connection Clubs were created to connect people with similar interests to share activities and community resources.

Each Connection Club has a focused activity. We have a Knitting Club, a Walking Club, a Book Discussion Club, and a Creative Club.

All Connection Clubs help people who are looking for social activities and community events, in addition to providing interest-based activities to those who attend. They are open to clients, volunteers, staff, and community members – everyone! These clubs are not support groups – just a way to connect people.

Walking Club

The Evergreen Connection Café Walking Club will meet the second Monday of each month from 10:00am to 12:00pm from May to October, weather permitting.

Walks will take part on the trails around Evergreen Hospice and be approximately 1-2 hours in length. We have done our best to ensure washroom access and easy trail options, with spots to rest, but please ensure that you are well enough to walk. We urge you to seek the advice of a physician before beginning any physical exercise activity.

Your participation in this club requires registration, an awareness of your fitness to participate, and an understanding that any physical activity carries a risk of injury. It is your responsibility to ensure you don’t exceed your limits and inform volunteer, staff, or other participants if you begin to feel unwell during the activity.

You will be required to give Evergreen an emergency contact.

Participants must be registered before joining the Walking Club. Registration is through tstanton@evgcares.org or 416-499-2185 ext. 107

Book Club

The Evergreen Connection Café Book Discussion Club will meet the third Friday of every month from 2:00pm to 3:30pm in person or on Zoom.

We will discuss books that focus on self-care, grief, and other healthcare related topics. There will not be a specific book for everyone to read, instead it will be more of a reference library for those interested in finding their next book and/or recommending and discussing one they have found to be helpful on their journey.

Death Cafes

Join others in a candid and open, virtual conversation (via zoom) on death and dying. This is open to everyone.

“At a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. Our objective is to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives’. A Death Café is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session.” – Deathcafe.com

Creative Club

The Evergreen Connection Café Creative Club will meet the second Friday of every month from 1:00PM to 2:30PM in person or online, depending on the activity being offered.

Every month, we will offer a creative activity and discuss how creativity can be helpful to your wellbeing and self-care.

Participants must register before participating. Registration instructions will be listed with each Creative Club posting.

Advance Care Planning & Substitute Decision Making

Sharing our wishes, values, and beliefs with our loved ones is the best way to ensure we live our life the way we want. Conversations need to be gentle, and need to start before anyone is ill. If we wait, we risk adding to the emotional chaos of an emergency or illness diagnosis. Advance Care Planning allows us to reflect on how we want to live our life and how we communicate that information to our loved ones.

This is important information for everyone, at any age.

Evergreen offers Advance Care Planning Sessions throughout the year at our office and within our communities.
